I'm glad you wrote about this. When I was in school and my history teacher talked about the burning of the library in Alexandria, I was so shocked and was devastated that even my teacher was surprised at my reaction. I thought it was a catastrophe even at a tender age. While I was watching the movie Agora and saw the scene its burning I literally cried my eyes out! I found it such a horror that all these original manuscript were turned into ash, lost forever, and now it saddens me so much knowing that some of the greatest writings in the world simply do not exist anymore, and wonder had they not been lost, would science and literature have advanced faster?

A very nice post - you're right that we've lost a lot of excellent stuff in the past. There's plenty that might get lost these days too, even with the internet.
As a Copenhagener I truly like Christiania. I believe Christiania should be saved as it is - it is a part of Denmark's history and culture, and at the same time quater is really fascinating! Now the question is WHO should pay for Christiania being saved. Is it the people living there? Or should Danish citizens sponsor one of Denmark greatest culture attractions? What do you think? We are a group of Danish/Swedish bloggers discussing this topic just now, and we would very much like to hear your opinion.

All the best,
