Animating Paradise

the-garden-of-earthly-delights

Earlier this year, I shared a post on the Prado Museums commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the death of the painter Hieronymus Bosch and his masterpiece “The Garden of Earthly Delights”. Now, the Museum of the Image in Breda, Netherlands has commission an animated and updated version of the center panel of the hallucinatory painting. You can see the work in person at MOTI in Breda until December 30th, but if you can’t visit here’s a look:

Traveler’s Apology

apology-back-female

The original “American Apology Shirt” was created by Joel Aufrecht back in 2003 for U.S. travelers to demonstrate to people in other nations that George W. Bush did not represent the beliefs of all Americans. The profits from the sales of the shirts were donated to Doctors Without Borders MSF. Now, the project has been revived to help American travelers address the Presidential election debacle, with the profits once again going to MSF. The “American Traveler International Apology Shirt” in various gender apropriate versions can be purchased here. I know that I will be getting my own before my next trip.

Two Travelers

leonardcohen

Like millions of Leonard Cohen fans around the world I have been mourning the passing of the legendary poet, singer, songwriter, and novelist. We can only console ourselves with the extraordinary body of work that he has left us. The short animated film below, “Leonard Cohen on Moonlight”, is a production from the Blank on Blank series from PBS Digital Studios.

Islands of Sanity

clinton_v2-artboard_6

If you are planning a visit to the United States after January 20, 2017, please consider using the map above to set your itinerary. You may miss out on some of the most spectacular sights and landscape, but at least you will be in contact with saner and more congenial natives. However, if you choose to spend time in any areas on the map below, be prepared to cope with the walking brain-dead, AKA Trump voters.

Please note that the islands of sanity include some of our greatest cities and areas of natural beauty. So, you won’t have to sacrifice culture, art, great food, and the environment to avoid the moronic, bigoted minority who chose a bloated orange, racist, misogynistic piss bucket for President.

What Goes Well With A Dry White

101

Italian winery Matteo Correggia has teamed up with designers Reverse Innovation to add short stories to wine bottles.

This new line of wine is called Librottiglia. Each bottle of wine in the collection is paired with a short story that is wrapped around the bottle as part of its label. The collection includes both reds and whites. The concept is to encourage folks to relax with a glass of wine and enjoy a short story that complements the mood of the wine.

Underground Design

h/t to follower Evan Smythe for this post

During the 1930s, London Transport’s first chief executive, Frank Pick, commissioned radical new designs for the system’s Underground stations, the famous Johnston typeface, and the iconic roundel. To mark the 75th anniversary of Pick’s passing, the London Transport Museum and the Art on the Underground program commissioned a beautiful installation in the Piccadilly Circus station. The memorial is executed in bronze, marble, enamel, and LEDs, and incorporated quotes from Pick’s own notes.
