This week, extensive areas of Venice have been underwater (even more than usual). Severe weather and unusually high tides submerged three quarters of La Serenissima under an extra meter of lagoon water. Here’s what Europe’s most romantic tourist destination has looked like lately.













Well, if you WILL build a city on top of several sinking islands….poor Venice. I hate to think of all the damage the flood waters are doing to this beautiful city. But they seem to be handling it as best they can.
I wonder about the danger, though. It would be too easy for someone to not see the dividing line and accidentally step off a walking area and into a canal — or do they have these areas marked off for safety? Guess they do.
