Bye Bye Barcelona

After spending a week in Barcelona not so long ago, I can sympathize with local residents who wish that their city was not quite so popular with tourists. With nearly 8 million annual visitors to the city, the streets are often jammed ass to elbow with tourists.

Barcelona filmmaker Eduardo Chibás has captured local sentiment about the flood of visitors in his documentary Bye Bye Barcelona.

I agree with the sentiment. The first thing that struck me when I landed in Barcelona was, why is it so crowded. It was so much different from Madrid or Seville. I didn’t realize that I was adding to the tourist crowd too.
