Bookstore Tourism: Paris

Founded in 1826, Librairie Jousseaume is a Parisian treasure hidden inside Galerie Vivienne. Tucked away from the usual tourist crowds, inside the glass-roofed elegance of Galerie Vivienne, you’ll find Librairie Jousseaume, a nearly 200-year-old bookshop.

Founded in 1826, this antiquarian shop has seen revolutions, wars, literary movements, and the rise of the digital age. And yet, somehow, it survives, in large part thanks to Francois Jousseaume, the man who owns and manages it.

Librairie Jousseaume was purchased by Francois Jousseaume’s great-grandfather in 1890, and today, Francois is the one keeping the family tradition alive. The bookshop is more than a business for him; it’s a family legacy, it’s an heirloom to be treasured.

A unique aspect of Librairie Jousseaume is that it’s situated across two small shops facing each other across the narrow passage of the gallery. It’s not your typical spacious bookstore layout; it’s intimate and close, almost as if you’re stepping into a private collection.

The antiquarian shop specializes in rare and antique titles, particularly those from the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as engravings and prints, first editions, travel, art, and historical artifacts.
