You won’t get a classic Superman, but if you head to your local comic bookstore today you can pick-up a free copy of a more contemporary comic. Why ? Because it’s Free Comic Book Day . The annual event began in 2002 when comic seller Joe Field created the concept to celebrate readers and to encourage lapsed comic lovers to return to the fold. Now, on the first Saturday each May, comic retailers around the globe participate in Free Comic Book Day with special events, lots of cosplay, and of course free books.
For more information and to locate a comic store near you visit the special day’s dedicated website freecomicbookday.com.
