Whenever I am in Paris for more than a few days, I prefer to rent an apartment in my favorite district of the city. It may not be the in the hippest arrondissement, but I have always loved the vibe and the mix of cultures. Not to mention, the best falafel in town. Filmmaker Thomas Guerrin followed an (unnamed) boarder through the streets of Le Marais in Paris (using a glidecam + 5D III) for this short, sweet film.

I kind of dislike Paris. The people are unfriendly, the metros unsafe and unreliable, the streets are dirty, and all of that is way overpriced. I even don’t like to connect there, because it often requires you to travel for half a day from one airport to another one. It was probably a cool place to be during the interlude between the two world wars, when you had a cosmopolitan artist community living there, but since the sixties it’s merely a place to avoid.
Sadly, Paris is not the glittering gem that it once was. I’ve been six times over the last four decades and try to hold onto my absolute joy during my first visit.
First time visitors these days are shocked when they wander away from the top tourist sites to discover the chaos, filth, and squalor.
