Whenever I visit Washington D.C., I try and make time to stop in at the always amazing Hirshhorn Museum of Art and Sculpture Garden on the Mall. This branch of the Smithsonian Institution offers superb contemporary art and is often a peaceful respite from the tourist crowds. The museum recently debuted the neat Hirshhorn Eye ( hi) smartphone app that allows visitors to learn about the exhibits directly from the creators. The clever app is a revolutionary new in-gallery guide that uses image recognition to scan artworks and provide videos and information from the artists. You can check it out and download a copy right here.
